However, not all of them will be available at first since each coop upgrade unlocks different animals. Below you'll find all the types of animals available for coops.

Chickens

After getting your first coop on your farm (you can learn how to get a coop here), go to Marnie's Ranch to purchase the first type of Coop animal that you'll be able to have: Chickens.

How to Get Chickens

Chickens cost 800g and come in two colors, white and brown. White chickens will lay white eggs while brown chickens lay brown eggs; This is important to remember since you'll need both types of eggs for the Animal Bundle in the Pantry at the Community Center.

You can also incubate chickens in the incubator available in Big and Deluxe Coops.

You could also get Blue Chickens after seeing Shane's 8-heart event. However, this color is just cosmetic, so Blue Chickens act just like regular chickens.

Produce

Chickens will lay eggs every day, and if your chickens are well-taken care of, they'll lay Large eggs instead, which have a higher sell price.

Animal Product Base Price

  • Brown Egg

  • Large Egg
  • Large Brown Egg

Golden Chickens

Golden Chickens are a Chicken variant that lays Golden Eggs instead of regular ones.

How to Get a Golden Chicken

Unlike regular chickens, you can't buy Golden Chickens. Instead, you have to hatch them by placing a Golden egg in an incubator. The hatching process will take six days or three if you have the Coopmaster Profession.

To get your first Golden Egg, you'll have to achieve a perfect score on your game. Afterward, you can buy the Golden Egg from Marnie's Ranch for 100,000g or from Qi's Walnut Room for 100 Qi gems.

There's also a chance you can get a Golden Egg via a random event regarding a witch or by finding it inside a treasure chest while fishing.

Produce

Golden Chickens lay Golden Eggs every day. You can either place those in the incubator to hatch more Golden Chickens or sell the eggs for 500g (this is the base price). Alternatively, you could place the Golden Egg in the Mayonnaise Machine to make three gold-quality Mayonaise, which sells for 285g each.

Void Chicken

Void Chickens are another Chicken variant, this one lay Void Eggs instead of regular ones.

How to Get Void Chickens

Void Chickens can't be bought. You'll have to hatch them by placing a Void Egg in an incubator; this process will take five in-game days or two if you have the Coopmaster Profession.

You'll get your first Void Egg during a random event where a witch will fly over one of your coops and leave the egg inside. For this event to happen, you must have a Big or Deluxe coop on your farm that's not full.

Duck

Ducks are the second coop-dwelling animal you'll unlock in Stardew Valley, as they'll become available once you upgrade your coop to a Big Coop.

How to Get Ducks

After the Big Coop is done, go to Marnie's Ranch to purchase a duck for 1200g, the animal will be sent to your farm, where it'll take five days to grow.

You could also get a duck by placing a Duck Egg in the incubator that's inside Big and Deluxe Coops.

Produce

Ducks lay Egg Ducks every two days. You can sell the egg or put it in the Mayonnaise Machine to make Duck Mayo. However, if you have a high enough relationship with the Duck, it'll produce a Duck Feather every now and then.

Duck Egg 95g
Duck Feather 250g

Dinosaurs

Alongside Ducks, Dinosaurs are another one of the coop-dwelling animals you'll unlock when purchasing the Big Coop.

How to Get Dinosaurs

Unlike many of the other coop animals, you won't be able to buy Dinosaurs in Marnie's Ranch; instead, you'll have to hatch these creatures from a Dinosaur egg that's been placed in an incubator for 12 days. On the bright side, Dinosaurs are born mature, so you won't have to wait a few days until they can lay eggs.

There are a few ways you can get your hands on a Dinosaur Egg. For example, you can:

  • Dig up Artifact Spots in The Mountains and the Quarry
  • Find one in treasure chest found while fishing
  • Find one as a drop from a Pepper Rex
  • Forage for Dinosaur Eggs in the Prehistoric Floors of the Skull Cavern
  • Win a Dinosaur Egg from the Crane Game in the Movie Theater

Produce

Dinosaurs lay Dinosaurs Eggs every seven days. These eggs have a base price of 350g each; you could also use them to make some mayonnaise using the Mayonnaise Machine to make Dinosaur Mayonnaise which sells for 800g.

Rabbits

Rabbits are probably the last coop-dwelling animals you'll be able to get on your farm since you'll need a Deluxe Coop to unlock them.

How to Get Rabbits

After upgrading your Big Coop into a Deluxe Coop, you'll be able to go to Marnie's Ranch and purchase a Rabbit for 8000g; the animal will mature after six days have passed.
